Uber will locate polling locations and offer rides on Election Day
Millennials already use Uber to get to work, go out to dinner, and visit friends — why not take it to the polls, too?
That’s Uber’s mission with a new “get out the vote” partnership with Google unveiled on Friday that will pinpoint local polling locations on Election Day and transport voters directly to the ballot box.
According to Uber, a statement will pop up on users’ phones on Tuesday reminding them it is Election Day and that “Your voice counts.” Users can enter their address where they are registered to vote and the app will automatically locate their polling place and request a ride there.
This is the first time Uber is offering this feature, spokeswoman Brittany Bramell said. It follows Uber’s statement in September advocating for maximum voter registration.
New users can enter the code “VOTETODAY” to get $20 off the ride.
