Dunkin’ Donuts is testing mobile pre-ordering in Portland, Maine
Need a coffee or breakfast sandwich (or snickerdoodle croissant donut), but don’t have time to place your order and wait for it to be made?
Well, Maine residents, who are apparently late for work, are in luck: Dunkin’ Donuts is testing mobile pre-ordering in Portland.

The app is available for users in Portland, Maine.
The Canton-based chain announced Wednesday that members of their DD Perks Rewards Program can download the DD On-the-Go Ordering Portland app this week, “which enables guests to order in advance using their mobile phone, skip the line and go straight to pick up when they get inside the store.’’
“On the Go’’ orders can also be picked up via drive-thru. They can only be paid for through the chain’s DD Perks card.
Customers can place their orders up to 24 hours in advance and then confirm via the app once they are at the restaurant, explains Dunkin’ Donuts’ FAQ page:
Tap “Ready to Pick Up’’ from the order confirmation page (or by tapping on the “Order Information’’ orange bar). Once you arrive at the restaurant, go directly to the pick-up counter. If you submitted your order to be picked up at the Drive-thru, proceed to the drive-thru line and when you get to the speaker, simply tell the crew person on the other end that you placed a mobile order and provide your name.
Customers can also save their favorite orders to be re-ordered later with just one tap.
If a Dunkin’ Donuts location doesn’t have an ordered item upon the customers’ arrival, they will be given the opportunity to pick a substitute item or to request a refund.
“During pilot testing, customers will only be able to order items that are available nationally,’’ the website says. “However, once we launch On-the-Go Ordering nationally, it’s our hope to be able to offer all menu items through the app.’’
The company hopes to roll out the On-the-Go app nationally “sometime in 2016.’’
Dunkin’ Donuts also announced it is testing delivery in Dallas this week, as well as Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. in the coming weeks. The service will be provided through the delivery company DoorDash.
