Here’s the new luxury hoverboard you didn’t know you needed

How can you not want this right now?

Back to the Future 2 was set in October 2015, but the future has come early thanks to the Lexus hoverboard. There have been allusions to the long-awaited technology, and even a fake introduction to hoverboard, but this time it’s real.

As part of its “Amazing in Motion’’ video series, the luxury car company presents the first real and rideable hoverboard. The video shows a skateboarder stepping off his old-fashioned wheeled ride in favor of the innovation from the future.

The board clearly hovers, but this boarder doesn’t actually step on it. So while we see super-cool looking smoke emitting from the board—the liquid nitrogen that keeps it aloft—we don’t actually see a super cool Marty McFly impersonation.

According to the website, “the Lexus Hoverboard uses magnetic levitation to achieve amazing frictionless movement. Liquid nitrogen cooled superconductors and permanent magnets combine to allow Lexus to create the impossible.’’

The board is built from carbon fiber and wood. According to Lexus, new images and videos will be released weekly, and we can all watch the development at #LexusHover.

It’s clearly the luxury vehicle of the future. And the future is now.
