Friendship, According to Facebook

Every company should have a Facebook page, so it’s only fitting that Facebook has one too. But while most companies use their social media presence to promote their products to, and interact with, its customers and fans, Facebook’s followers are already using the site. So it takes a different approach.

“The Facebook Page celebrates how our friends inspire us, support us, and help us discover the world when we connect,’’ reads the page’s About section.

That’s right. The company that a couple years back toyed with nearly 700,000 of its users’ emotions (for science!) and then almost apologized for it isn’t so much into promotion, at least not in a traditional sense. It instead devotes its page to reminding you that Facebook is friendship, and friendship is Facebook.

They have sort of a funny way of drilling that message home, offering tips here and there about how friendship works. Here are some of Facebook’s most recent status updates, broadcast to its millions of followers. Some have also been promoted to reach users who don’t follow Facebook to remind them all about friendship. They might have forgotten about it since they don’t follow Facebook, which, once again, is friendship.
