Slap Bracelets are Back (But with a High-Tech Twist)
If you’re nostalgic for Slap bracelets from the 1980s and 1990s, you’re in luck. The stylish accessory is back, but this time, it’s compatible with your smartphone. (Obviously.)
X-Doria, a lifestyle technology company, has just launched the KidFit Wristband, which snaps onto the wrist (with a light tap), and tracks physical activity.
The watch is geared toward motivating kids to get up and move, and the tech company told Mashable that the bracelet’s creation was largely motivated by the growing wearables trend.
KidFit can sync with Bluetooth and is compatible with certain iOS and Android devices, according to X-Doria’s website. The free KidFit app can be used by parents and children to set daily fitness goals, earn points, and track progress over time via a nifty timeline.
Worried your kid isn’t clocking enough ZzZ’s?
The bracelet also monitors how many hours kids sleep each night.
You can pre-order your device now for $39.99 and they will ship after August 15.
We only hope this time around, the slap bracelet phenomenon doesn’t get doused with cold water like it did in the ‘90s. (Apparently the old models, which were “nine-inch flexible metal slats’’ covered in bright fabric, were pretty dangerous.)
