The once-trailblazing gaming company has been relying on the WiiU, its most recent console release, to boost sales. But Nintendo has only sold about 2.8 million WiiUs in the fiscal year that ended on March 31, and just more than 6 million since launching in late 2012. Comparatively, Sony has already sold 7 million PlayStation 4 systems since putting it on the market last fall, according to Mashable.

Gamers have criticized Nintendo for releasing the WiiU without simultaneous new releases for some of its flagship games, like Mario and Zelda. Nintendo has since released new Mario games, but that doesn’t appear to have helped much as the company sold significantly more units in the system’s first few months than it has in the recent fiscal year.
