Tim Tebow, but not Tom Brady, to speak at Republican convention
Despite Donald Trump’s wishes, Tom Brady won’t speak at the Republican National Convention in Ohio next week.
But his one-time backup Tim Tebow will.
The lineup of speakers expected to introduce Trump at the convention, acquired by The New York Times, features a heavy dose of sports and entertainment names but a relative lack of Republican political stars.
Tebow, the former Heisman Trophy winner, NFL quarterback, and conservative, is expected to bring his brand of political Tebowmania on the fourth and final day of the convention, according to the Times.
Yet nowhere on the list is Brady, who has praised Trump as a “good friend” and had a “Make America Great Again” hat in his locker. Similarly, Trump has repeatedly praised Brady as a friend and a winner, and he recently suggested he would get Brady to speak at the Republican convention.
Tebow can’t claim to have Brady’s historically great NFL success or talent, but the outspoken quarterback brings a personal fame from his sports career. His stellar collegiate success led him to the Denver Broncos, and he quarterbacked the squad on an unlikely run of close wins to make it to the second-round of the playoffs in 2011.
But the burly lefty never overcame his struggles with passing accuracy, and he bounced around from team to team for several years. In 2013, he spent a forgettable preseason with the Patriots behind Tom Brady and Ryan Mallett.
