A skier died Saturday after a fall at Sugarbush Resort in Vermont, authorities said.

Vermont State Police in Berlin were notified at 3:26 p.m. of the incident on Stein’s Run on Sugarbush’s Lincoln Peak, according to a police statement. Investigators later determined the man fell while skiing and slid off the trail into a wooded area.

Ski patrol members found the man unresponsive and brought him to the base of the mountain, where they were met by the Mad River Valley Ambulance, police said.

The man was pronounced dead from his injuries, according to the police statement.

A GoFundMe has been launched to support the family of the victim, identified by the fundraiser as 43-year-old Cory Hartman.

Police said the death does not appear to be suspicious. An autopsy will be conducted at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Burlington to determine the case and manner of death, VSP said.

According to the fundraiser, Hartman was known for his adventurous spirit and is survived by his wife and their three daughters. Donations will go toward funeral expenses and helping support his children.

“We want to honor Cory’s memory by supporting his family, ensuring his children have the security he worked so hard to provide,” the fundraiser states. “Please consider donating to help this family through their darkest time.”
