MIT origami club expresses love of the craft
-

Impressed by the students’ Thanksgiving display, Boston noodle chain Wagamama decided to join the fold. They commissioned OrigaMIT to create love-themed origami art installations in their four restaurants.
-

Wagamama will be featuring the art on social media leading up to Valentine’s Day. This origami bouquet will be up for grabs, paired with a restaurant gift card, as part of the promotion.
-

Yongquan Lu, president of the club, holds a paper crane in hand — remarkably simple when compared to the complex creations Wagamama will display.
-

OrigaMIT members aren’t just folding along the dotted lines. Their pieces are equal parts art and mathematics. Precision is key when crafting handiwork like this paper rose, which could almost pass for the real thing.
-

Lu and publicity chair Tracy Cheng show off a pair of winged hearts.
-

While the creations shown here require knowledge of math and aesthetics, MIT’s origami club invites any MIT student to join, regardless of experience.
