And they said Wheaties was the breakfast of champions.

From the creators of such food portmanteaus as the Boston cream-filled cronut, the doughnut bacon-egg-and-cheese, and the waffle breakfast sandwich, the world has yet another low-brow, but adventurous, breakfast creation: Dunkin’ Donuts coffee-flavored Pop-Tarts.

In a release Thursday, Dunkin’ Donuts announced the “first-of-its-kind partnership” bringing two different coffee-flavored Pop Tarts to grocery store shelves. Given Pop-Tarts’ own penchant for rather eclectic flavors, the partnership actually kind of makes sense.

The first Dunkin’ Donuts flavor, a Frosted Chocolate Mocha Pop Tart, features white frosting and is filled with “chocolatey-espresso goodness.” The second flavor, Frosted Vanilla Latte, features a tan frosting swirl and a “rich, sweet vanilla and coffee-flavored filling,” though apparently no “goodness” of any kind.

“Our fans have been clamoring for coffee-flavored Pop-Tarts,” Angela Gusse, director of marketing for Pop-Tarts, said in a statement.

According to Dunkin’ Donuts, the specialty Pop-Tarts will be available for a limited time.

The Canton-based company did not immediately respond to inquiries as to whether the newly-announced partnership opened the door to future Pop-Tart-flavored Dunkin’ Donuts products.
