Kendall Square’s acclaimed wood-fired pizzeria has made its way across the river.

Area Four opened its second location in the South End on Monday, according to a statement from the restaurant.

“We see a lot of commonalities between Kendall and the Ink Block, and we are going to do everything we can to become the neighborhood restaurant for this exciting part of the city,” owner Michael Krupp said.

Area Four Boston will continue to churn out its popular pies cooked in its own custom-built Maine Wood Heat oven. But the eatery has also expanded its wood-fired menu to include more vegetable, meat, and seafood options like pork belly, duck egg carbonara, a Brussels sprouts and kale salad, and nut buttered beets.

The bar program is also stepping up its game with bar managers Augusto Lino, previously of Hungry Mother, and Dan Lynch, previously of Blue Dragon, serving up drinks like the Marilla Pera (a take on a Caipirinha) and the Greenpoint (a variation on the Manhattan) for the Ink Block neighborhood. Those not in the mood for a cocktail will find 14 mostly local draft beers and wine.

Customers will notice a retro vibe at the new space thanks to features like a projection screen for video art, small vintage televisions, and a large two-turntable Pioneer record player—with Krupp’s record collection to go along with it.

The restaurant, located in the Troy Boston Building at 264 East Berkeley St., is serving up slices seven days a week from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. The bar will stay open until 2 a.m.

This won’t be Krupp’s last opening this year. He’s partnering up with Roxy’s Grilled Cheese partner James DiSabatino to open Roxy’s A4cade, a vintage arcade and bar near MIT.
