Sweetgreen Back Bay reopens following temporary closure for health code violations
Sweetgreen’s Boylston Street location, which was temporary closed by city health inspectors this week, reopened Friday afternoon. The popular salad chain at 659 Boylston Street was closed Tuesday after inspectors found 20 code violations, including the incorrect temperature of certain foods and employees reusing gloves that are meant to be “task specific.”Sweetgreen President and COO Karen Kelley said in a statement the business worked with the city’s health department to correct the violations and would be designating a staff “food safety expert” at each of its locations across the country immediately.
“We want to assure our customers that this was an isolated incident and that we have taken steps to make sure it does not happen again,” she said.
The Back Bay salad shop debuted in 2013 as the chain’s first location in Massachusetts. The company plans to open five more locations in the Boston area by the end of the year.
