Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell issued a statement Wednesday following Donald Trump’s presidential win, saying her office is “ready to act” against potential threats from Trump’s administration.
“Donald Trump is our President-elect, and I want to remind constituents that it is essential to recognize the will of the people and support a peaceful transition of power as these are central and non-negotiable tenets to being a democracy,” Campbell said in a statement. “I am also clear-eyed that President-elect Trump has told us exactly what he intends to do as President, and that we need to believe him and to be ready for the challenges ahead.
“Across the country, attorneys general will be on the front lines to protect our fundamental rights and freedoms, and Massachusetts will continue to be a beacon of light and hope. My office is prepared for the threats our residents may face, ready to act and we will not shy away or back down from the critical work ahead.”
Gov. Maura Healey sued the Trump administration 96 times when she served as attorney general during his first term in office, and she won in 77% of those cases, according to The Boston Globe.
“It was absolutely essential that AGs like myself and others across the country were there to hold the line to protect our residents, to protect our businesses, to protect and defend the rule of law during the Trump years,” Healey previously told the Globe.
