New Brookline ‘I voted’ stickers will feature a familiar face: a turkey

Town Clerk Ben Kaufman said the new design featuring Brookline's bird "celebrity" is to encourage turnout.

Brookline is adding its own personal flair to its “I voted” stickers this election season. This election, voters will have the option to pick a sticker featuring a local feathered friend: a turkey.

The Town Clerk’s office shared a photo of the sticker, which features a brightly-colored profile of a turkey with the inscription “I voted” and a heart.  Town Clerk Ben Kaufman said the stickers are to “increase attention to elections” and encourage voter turnout.

“Any chance we have to talk to voters and encourage them to make their voices heard in our elections is an opportunity we will take,” Kaufman said in a statement to Boston.com.

Kaufman said his office was already ordering more stickers due to expected high voter turnout. But when he realized the cost to make a new sticker was the same as ordering old ones, he decided to go with a new design.

The turkey sticker was designed by local artist Caroline Barnes, who creates Brookline-specific turkey art. Kaufman said poll workers and other election officials picked the sticker from several other designs. He assured voters that his office has more than enough stickers, both in the turkey and traditional designs.

“If you vote by mail, come by an early voting location,” he said. “I’m sure if you ask nicely, you can get a sticker too!”
