Watch: Healey, Warren speak during last night of DNC
Three leading Massachusetts Democrats took to the stage during the last night of the Democratic National Convention on Thursday.
Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey, Senator Elizabeth Warren, and Representative Katherine Clark spoke at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday night.
All three politicians emphasized Vice President Kamala Harris’s record and weren’t shy about their criticisms of former President Donald Trump.
Clark, a leading Democratic congresswoman who represents Massachusetts’ fifth district, took the stage early in the night with a brief speech. She touched on her family’s personal struggles finding money to pay for childcare.
“JD Vance says affordable child care is a class war against normal people,” she said in her speech. “You know what normal people want? A president who understands this shouldn’t be so damn hard.”
Warren took the stage to loud, prolonged applause, appearing to tear up as the crowd cheered her name. In her five minute long speech, the senator spoke about her personal experience working with Harris.

“You know what I love about Kamala Harris?” Warren, who has been a senator since 2013, asked the crowd. “Kamala Harris can’t be bought.”
Warren touched on the Vice President’s background as California’s Attorney General, emphasizing her experience as a prosecutor. She criticized Trump’s recent criminal convictions, framing them against Harris’s political history.
“The only bills [Trump] worries about are from his criminal defense lawyers,” Warren said.
Donald Trump has no plan to lower costs for families. He doesn’t know how—and frankly, he doesn’t really care. When did he ever fill up a gas tank or worry about a grocery bill? The only bills he worries about are from his criminal defense lawyers.

She concluded her speech encouraging audience members and viewers to elect Kamala Harris “with joy in our hearts.”

Healey spoke later in the night. She referenced a moment she shared with Harris a few weeks ago, where a little girl told the Vice President she loved playing basketball.
Healey, who played professional basketball in Austria, said the little girl said she liked to play every position, except for defense. According to Healey, Harris said she didn’t like to be on defense either.
“Kamala Harris fights for all Americans,” Healey said in her speech. “She stays on offense and she wins. I know she’ll fight with the same passion, the same determination, as President of the United States.”

Healey spoke about a “stark choice” on the presidential ticket come November. Similar to Warren, the governor juxtaposed Harris’ image as a prosecutor and lawmaker with Trump’s 34 felony convictions.
“He obstructs justice, she upholds it. He swindles people, she serves them,” Healey said. “He thinks he’s above the law, she actually understands the law.”
