Mitt Romney got a black eye in Boston this weekend
No, he didn't get in a fistfight after a Bruins game.
Utah senator and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney was spotted with a black eye and stitches in Washington D.C. Monday.
The cause? A weekend trip visiting one of his five sons and some of his many, many grandchildren in Boston.
We know what you’re thinking, and no, the Republican wasn’t attacked by a fervent opponent on either side of the aisle. But he did joke to reporters that the injury was because he “went to CPAC,” the conservative conference whose director warned last year he would fear for the senator’s safety if he showed up. (Romney, who regularly clashes with Donald Trump’s faction of the GOP and voted to impeach him twice, was explicitly not invited to the conference this year or last.)

The cause of the black eye is apparently a lot more benign than what every movie or show set in Boston might lead you to believe. Romney said he took a fall that knocked him unconscious, but that he’s now “doing better.” A spokesperson told The Boston Globe that he “got some stitches to patch up his scrapes.”
