Here are Boston’s unofficial 2020 election results

The city's results show former Vice President Joe Biden received over 82 percent of the vote, while President Donald Trump garnered 15.6 percent.

Voters across Massachusetts went out to the polls in droves on Election Day, although turnout in Boston appeared Wednesday to not have eclipsed that of the two previous presidential elections as some speculated it could, city officials said.

Approximately 63.5 percent of registered city voters cast a ballot — slightly less than the 66.75 percent of voters who did so four years ago, and the 65.87 percent recorded in 2012, according to Mayor Marty Walsh.

“Boston yesterday beat the 2008 turnout,” Walsh told reporters. “So it wasn’t one of the highest. I guess if you average the last four presidential elections, we’re right in the average place.”

As a whole, Bay State voters surpassed the 3.3 million ballots cast in 2016, Secretary of the Commonwealth Bill Galvin said. He anticipated the final number to come in over 3.6 million as expected.

Walsh said city officials were still counting domestic mail-in ballots that were postmarked by Tuesday and will continue to do so through Friday. Overseas ballots can be counted through Nov. 13.

“These numbers that we have in Boston are not final,” Walsh said. “The work is still going on and every vote must be counted.”

Democratic nominee and former Vice President Joe Biden carried the vast majority of votes in Boston against Republican President Donald Trump, or about 82.5 percent to Trump’s 15.6 percent, unofficial results show. Democratic Senator Ed Markey saw a similar landslide with 82.7 percent of the city’s vote against Republican challenger Kevin O’Connor.

Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, of the 7th Congressional District, beat out Independent Roy Owens in Boston with just over 87 percent of the vote, while Congressman Stephen Lynch, of the 8th District, garnered 84.1 percent of ballots to be reelected over Jonathan Lott, of the Healthcare Environment Stability Party.

Boston voters also fell in line with the majority of voters across the state on Question 1 to approve expanding Massachusetts’ right-to-repair law. However, while most Bay State voters shot down the proposal for ranked choice voting in Question 2, voters in the Hub apparently wanted to see the effort carried out, with 61.7 percent casting their ballots in favor of the system.

Voters in the city also handedly backed two non-binding ballot questions.

Question 3 asked whether lawmakers should “vote in favor of legislation that would require Massachusetts to achieve 100 percent renewable energy use within the next two decades, starting immediately and making significant progress within the first five years while protecting impacted workers and business.” Question 4 asked whether representatives should vote to change state House of Representative rules to make all House legislative committee votes publicly available online.
