Massachusetts politicians react to resignation of Jeff Sessions
"Creating a constitutional crisis to change an Election Day narrative is a new low, even for Trump."
Attorney General Jeff Sessions resigned from his post Wednesday, per the request of President Donald Trump — and politicians from Massachusetts, including Sen. Elizabeth Warren, have issued some strong reactions on social media.

Trump announced the departure of Sessions over Twitter — and his acting replacement, Matthew G. Whitaker — the day following the midterm elections, in which Democrats regained control of the House.
….We thank Attorney General Jeff Sessions for his service, and wish him well! A permanent replacement will be nominated at a later date.

In response, Warren wrote that the president “is laying the groundwork to fire [Special Counsel] Robert Mueller,” who is currently heading the Russia investigation, by firing Sessions.
“Congress must act NOW to protect the investigation,” she wrote on Twitter.
Make no mistake: @realdonaldtrump is laying the groundwork to fire Robert Mueller. Congress must act NOW to protect the investigation. Sign our petition right now: https://t.co/t291WECiuu

.@realDonaldTrump’s firing of Jeff Sessions brings us one step closer to a constitutional crisis. Congress must act to ensure that Special Counsel Mueller can do his job without interference.

Read how other politicians in the state are reacting to the news, below:
Sessions faithfully carried out Trump’s extremist agenda. Yet Trump fired him before all the midterm ballots have been counted. If Trump tries to fire Deputy AG Rosenstein next, it will trigger a constitutional crisis. Now more than ever we must protect Special Counsel Mueller.

Jeff Sessions won’t be missed. A man who believes civil rights are conditional cannot be our top law enforcement officer. But if GOP continues to give cover to @realDonaldTrump, trust that we will get answers about this decision in January.
