Christine Blasey Ford appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday, testifying that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her when she was 15 years old at a high school gathering in the 1980s.
Even before the hearing got underway, Massachusetts politicians, including Republican Gov. Charlie Baker, weighed in on the proceedings and allegations that have been brought forward against Kavanaugh.
Ford is one of three women who have come forward with claims of sexual misconduct against Kavanaugh, who has denied all the allegations. He delivered his own testimony on Thursday, following Ford’s appearance.
Here’s how members of the Massachusetts congressional delegation are reacting to the hearing.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren
Dr. Ford’s testimony today is heartbreaking, credible, and compelling. Anyone watching can have no doubt she is telling the truth. I believe her, and I hope my Republican colleagues do too.

I want to thank the millions of people who tuned in to listen to Dr. Ford’s testimony, and every single person who showed up today to support her. Listening to survivors matters. Making your voice heard matters – Dr. Ford proved that today. pic.twitter.com/FKjgiHfsvs

One way for Brett Kavanaugh to clear his name is to submit to an FBI investigation. But he refuses. And he won’t release the thousands of documents from his gov’t service. What is he hiding? A Justice should have honesty & integrity. Kavanaugh has neither – he should withdraw.

Sen. Ed Markey
I believe Dr. Ford. #BelieveWomen

Judge #Kavanaugh was angry, belligerent, and disrespectful. He displayed the exact opposite of the kind of temperament expected from a justice on our nation’s top court. Judge Kavanaugh displayed the kind of behavior you would see on the People’s Court, not the Supreme Court.

Rep. Jim McGovern
It deeply saddens me that Dr. Ford has to sit before the Senate Judiciary Committee & relive a deeply personal trauma for the whole world to judge. #BelieveChristine

#BREAKING: I joined 64 Members of Congress led by @RepLoisFrankel calling for an immediate postponement of #Kavanaugh hearings until a thorough FBI investigation has been completed. #BelieveChristine https://t.co/x5gC1oOiKl

Rep. Joe Kennedy III
I cannot fathom the courage it took to do what Dr. Blasey Ford just did. Or what it meant for the countless women across the country who have suffered as she did to hear her clear, brave voice.

They’re prosecuting a victim. Cross-examining a survivor. Last time I checked she wasn’t the one asking our country for a job promotion.

Rep. Bill Keating
Yet, for a lifetime appointment to one of our nation’s most important positions, federal investigators are not being allowed to do this. That outrage is only matched by the courage of Dr. Ford in coming forward.
