After Rep. Niki Tsongas announced Wednesday she will not seek re-election, fellow lawmakers from Massachusetts responded with their gratitude and well-wishes for the sixth-term Lowell congresswoman.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren called Tsongas a mentor and a friend, thanking her for showing “how tough women fight for MA families.”

Likewise, Sen. Markey recognized his colleague as a “phenomenal legislator” and “role model” for the country.

Rep. Joe Kennedy III tweeted Tsongas is “as dedicated and decent a public servant as they come.”

Rep. Katherine Clark shared advice she learned from Tsongas, including “the idea that progress neither requires nor guarantees fanfare.”

Tsongas was also hailed as a “powerful voice” and “ferocious advocate” by Reps. Jim McGovern and Richard Neal.
