Marty Walsh calls Trump’s transgender service ban ‘shameful’ and ‘un-American’
Boston Mayor Marty Walsh tweeted a statement Tuesday afternoon in response to President Donald Trump’s announcement that “the United States Government will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military.”
“No American should be prohibited from the honor and privilege of serving our nation,” Walsh said.
It is shameful to turn away individuals willing to serve our country, solely based on their gender identity. #TransRightsAreHumanRights pic.twitter.com/9h3hTDaKbB

Walsh is not the only politician from Massachusetts to speak out against Trump’s decision. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey also tweeted their opposition.
The only thing – only thing – that matters when it comes to allowing military personnel to serve is whether or not they can handle the job.

By attacking thousands of troops, @realDonaldTrump makes clear that he cares more about extreme ideology than military readiness.

.@realDonaldTrump can pretend this is a military decision, but it isn’t. Banning troops on gender identity is shameful & makes us less safe.
