Saturday Night Live parodies Donald Trump’s interview with Lester Holt
"Absolutely nothing matters anymore."
After another turbulent week in the nation’s capital, Saturday Night Live spoofed President Donald Trump’s recent interview with NBC reporter Lester Holt, as well as the degree of nihilism perhaps felt by some of the president’s critics.In the real-life interview Thursday, Trump admitted he fired FBI Director James Comey because of his agency’s Russia investigation — departing with the White House’s earlier explanation for Comey’s firing. In last night’s cold open, the president was even more blunt.
“I fired him because of Russia,” says Trump, played, as always, by Alec Baldwin. “I thought he was investigating Russia. I don’t like that. I should fire him.”
The blatant contradiction stuns Holt, played by SNL cast member Michael Che.
“And you’re just admitting that?” Holt asks.
“Uh huh,” Trump confirms.
“But that’s obstruction of justice,” Holt says.
Trump continues to nod.
“Wait, so did I get him?” asks a flabbergasted Holt. “Is this all over?”

“No I didn’t?” Holt asks. “Nothing matters? Absolutely nothing matters anymore.”
Trumps replies affirmatively that — at least so far — he has proofed immune to controversies that could otherwise be politically fatal for other candidates and elected officials. The reason? Some help in Congress.
“That’s right, nothing is going to stop me because I’ve got the Republicans in the palm of my hand,” he says, ringing a bell summoning House Speaker to serve ice cream (two scoops).
