Maine’s Susan Collins unafraid to oppose President Trump
WASHINGTON — After breaking her ankle, Senator Susan Collins was forced to navigate the halls of Congress with a motorized wheelchair. One consequence: increased difficulty dodging reporters who line the halls, peppering members of Congress with questions.
“I must say I can’t outrun them the way I used to be able to do,” the Maine Republican said with a laugh. “There’s no doubt that reporters are taking advantage of my temporary disability, which prevents me from walking at my usual fast pace.”
The result? Collins has made headlines quite frequently since Donald Trump took office, emerging as part of a small group of Republicans who have shown they are unafraid to speak out against their party’s standard-bearer.
