Howie Carr swears he didn’t get rickrolled by Marty Walsh

The fight over sanctuary cities has reached unexpected heights.

Following his defiant rebuke of President Donald Trump’s executive orders Wednesday, Mayor Marty Walsh took to Twitter on Thursday for one of his regular sessions of #AskMJW, in which citizens can tweet questions to the Boston mayor.

During the chat, Boston Herald columnist Howie Carr, an outspoken critic of Walsh’s position on sanctuary cities, asked the mayor to come on his radio show.

Walsh, who appeared on Boston Herald Radio earlier Thursday morning, seemingly declined — in the form a rickroll.

Carr did not find Walsh’s meme of a response funny and replied with a reference to Matthew Denice, who was hit and killed by a car driven by an undocumented immigrant in 2011.

But the story does not end there.

After Carr tweeted multiple times to clarify that it was an “attempted” rickroll, an article on The Howie Carr Show’s website explained Carr’s “loyal (and tech-savvy) producer Steve saw [the] rickroll attempt and stepped in before anyone was harmed.”

“Howie Carr is not someone who can be rickrolled! Mostly because he has zero idea what rick rolling is,” the article read.

For those who, like Carr, are unfamiliar with the famous internet prank, an explanation and history of the rickroll can be found here.
