Former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld will be campaigning back in his home state Thursday (sorry New York magazine; he hasn’t given up yet).

The Libertarian vice presidential nominee will hold a 7 p.m. rally at the DCU Center in Worcester. Unlike Weld’s last campaign event in the Bay State, a rally on Boston Common, he will be without running mate and Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson.

According to a campaign event page, Weld will follow up Thursday’s rally with solo events in Keene and Manchester, New Hampshire, on Friday and in Bangor, Maine on Saturday.

Despite his role on the third-party ticket, Weld has made it clear he does not view the two major-party candidates equally.

In an interview Tuesday with The Boston Globe, he suggested his top focus is undermining Donald Trump, though he is still committed to his endeavor with Johnson. Weld has primarily criticized Trump for the Republican nominee’s proposals on foreign policy and immigration.

“I have had in mind all along trying to get the Donald into third place, and with some tugging and hauling, we might get there,” Weld said.

In the Globe interview, Weld also expressed interest in potentially helping create new path forward for the Republican Party after the election.

Before spurning the GOP for the Libertarian ticket, Weld was a longtime Republican, including during his time as governor in the 1990s. He has since criticized the party’s social conservatism on issues such as gay rights, abortion rights, and marijuana.
