Actress Elizabeth Banks, Pittsfield native, parodies Donald Trump’s RNC entrance on DNC stage
Elizabeth Banks’s entrance at the Democratic National Convention might’ve looked familiar.
The Pittsfield native took the stage Tuesday evening as “We Are the Champions” played, stopping to slowly clap while she was silhouetted by a bright light shinning from backstage. When she made her way to the center of the stage, the platform rose up to meet her.
“You know, I don’t usually say this about Donald Trump, but that was over the top,” she said. “I confirmed it, just now.”

The actress used her appearance as a means to mock Trump’s entrance at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland last week when he took the stage to introduce his wife, Melania Trump.
“The Trump campaign is hard up for money,” Banks said. “I just bought their fog machine on eBay for 30 bucks. I don’t feel good about it.”
In addition to taking some jabs at Trump, Banks also gave a shout-out to her hometown.
“When I think about what this election means for America, I think about my family,” she said. “My father, a Vietnam vet, worked the second and third shifts on the factory floor of my hometown of Pittsfield, Massachusetts. My mother worked at the library and the local bank. And they worked hard, they struggled.”
Banks said her parents hard work, boosted by liberal policies, led her to succeed and attend the University of Pennsylvania.
“It is because of what Democrats built,” she said, “good public schools, affordable healthcare, help in the hardest times, that they were able to do that.”
