When to expect Massachusetts pols to speak at the Democratic Convention
Sen. Elizabeth Warren won’t be the only face familiar to New Englanders who will be speaking at the Democratic National Convention over the next few days.
The senator from Massachusetts, already well known to a national audience, is expected to be a keynote speaker on Monday night in Philadelphia as part of Hillary Clinton’s official week-long nomination.
Several other local politicians, including Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, Rep. Joe Kennedy III, and Sen. Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire have also been named speakers at the convention. Rep. Katherine Clark of Massachusetts, who most recently led a dramatic sit-in on the House floor about gun control, also tweeted that she was asked to speak at the DNC
In addition, several nearby non-politicians will also be featured at the convention. Pam Livengood, from Keene, New Hampshire, will speak about the substance abuse epidemic and her experience dealing with her daughter’s addiction. And Erica Smegielski, the daughter of the principal of Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut, will speak about gun violence prevention measures.
Here’s a rundown of when to expect their speeches during the proceedings in Philadelphia.
Marty Walsh is expected to speak at 7:35 p.m. on Monday, according to Politico.
Joe Kennedy III will speak later on Monday evening, and he will introduce Elizabeth Warren.
Katherine Clark is expected to speak with the Democratic Women of the House on Tuesday night, a spokesperson said.
Pam Livengood is expected to speak on Monday night.
Erica Smegielski is expected to speak on Wednesday night.
