Bernie Sanders supporter Sarah Silverman calls ‘Bernie or bust’ voters ‘ridiculous’
Comedian Sarah Silverman, an avid supporter of Bernie Sanders’s campaign for the Democratic nomination, threw her support behind Hillary Clinton at the Democratic National Convention Monday night, calling those who refuse to do the same “ridiculous.”
“I will vote for Hillary with gusto, as I continue to be inspired and moved to action by the ideals set forth by Bernie, who will never stop fighting for us,” Silverman said. “I am proud to be a part of Bernie’s movement, and a vital part of that movement is making absolutely sure that Hillary Clinton is our next president of the United States.”
Her message was met with boos and cheers from the crowd, which quickly turned into a mix of chants supporting both Sanders and Clinton.
“Hillary heard the passion of the people, the people behind Bernie, and brought those passions into the party’s platform.” she said. “And that is democracy at its best.”
As the mixed reactions to her speech continued, Silverman tried to start a chant for “unity” over the divided crowd. When that failed, she followed up with one more remark.
“Can I just say, to the ‘Bernie or bust’ people, you’re being ridiculous,” she said.
