Donald Trump to hold fundraiser in Boston after canceling previous one
Donald Trump will hold a fundraiser in Boston on Wednesday at the Langham Hotel two weeks after a previously scheduled fundraiser was postponed due to the the mass shooting in Orlando.
A spot at the Boston luncheon on Wednesday at noon will cost $2,700 a seat, which is the maximum amount a person can legally donate to a federal candidate’s campaign.
Trump overwhelmingly won the Republican presidential primary in Massachusetts in March, but the state’s top GOP leaders, including Gov. Charlie Baker, have shunned the businessman. Still, former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown and state Rep. Geoff Diehl will be part of the event, The Boston Herald reports.
The fundraiser comes amid questions about Trump’s ability to raise money for his campaign from donors. Forms filed with the Federal Election Commission showed his campaign had just $1.3 million in cash at the start of June, a total well below Hillary Clinton’s campaign cash holdings of $42 million. Trump’s total came in below even the cash holdings of local politicians like Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito.
After his visit to Boston, Trump will head north to Bangor, Maine that afternoon for a rally. Maine Gov. Paul LePage, who has endorsed Trump, said he plans to attend.
