Elizabeth Warren happily embraces Hillary Clinton at Ohio rally
Sen. Elizabeth Warren embraced Hillary Clinton—literally and figuratively—during a fiery appearance at an Ohio rally on Monday, sending a clear signal to Democrats to unite against Donald Trump.
“I’m here today because I’m with her. Yes, her,” Warren said, as Clinton stood off to her left. “We’re gonna work our hearts out to make Hillary Clinton the next president of the United States.”

The rally in Cincinnati was the first joint appearance of the two high-profile Democrats this campaign season. Warren has become one of the Democratic party’s most prominent and forceful critics of Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee. The Massachusetts senator has also been vetted as a possible vice presidential pick, The New York Times reports.
If Monday was a vice presidential tryout, Warren excelled as an attack dog against Trump, who she said “wants it all for himself.”
“Hillary Clinton will be the next president of the United States because she knows what it takes to beat a thin-skinned bully who is driven by greed and hate,” she said.
Warren even repurposed Trump’s oft-repeated criticism of Warren as “goofy.”
“Donald Trump wants to make America great again. It’s right there on the front of his goofy hat,” Warren said. “You wanna see goofy? Look at that hat.”
Warren’s message of economic liberalism and criticisms of money in politics has, at times, put her at odds with Clinton. When the two spoke on behalf of Martha Coakley at a 2014 rally in Boston, they did not appear on stage at the same time. In addition, Warren withheld her coveted endorsement until after Clinton had clinched the nomination.
But on Monday before a raucous crowd, Clinton said Warren was “my friend and a great leader” and spoke fondly of her ability to rankle Trump.
“I do just love to see how she gets under Donald Trump’s thin skin. As Elizabeth made clear, Donald Trump proves every day he’s not in it for the American people, he’s in it for himself,” Clinton said. “She exposes him for what he is: temperamentally unfit and totally unqualified to be president of the United States.”
Clinton also praised Warren for creating the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and for holding bankers’ feet to the fire at congressional hearings.
“We want to make the point together, that we must have an economy that works for everyone again, not just for those at the top,” Clinton said.
