Bernie Sanders says he’s going to vote for Hillary Clinton

Sen. Bernie Sanders.

After more than a year of running against her, Bernie Sanders said he plans to vote for Hillary Clinton in the general election this fall.

When asked if he would vote for Clinton in November, Sanders responded with one word: “Yes.”

“I think the issue right here is I’m going to do everything I can to defeat Donald Trump,” he said on MSNBC on Friday. “I think Trump in so many ways would be a disaster for this country if he were to be elected president. We do not need a president whose cornerstone of his campaign is bigotry, is insulting Mexicans and Latinos and Muslims and women, who does not believe in the reality of climate change.”

In the Democratic primary, Clinton gained the support of a majority of pledged delegates and superdelegates. Still, Sanders has not conceded to her or dropped out of the race, saying he plans to remain a candidate until the Democratic convention in next month.

“What my job right now is to fight for the strongest possible platform in the Democratic convention,” Sanders said.
