Maine Gov. Paul LePage adopts dog, names it Veto
Maine Gov. Paul LePage has a new dog.
Following the death of his 11-year-old dog, Baxter, in March, the combative governor welcomed a new member to the LePage family Tuesday.
His name, fittingly, is Veto.

Just like Baxter, Veto is a male Jack Russell terrier mix, according to the governor’s office. Before Veto’s arrival in Maine, where LePage adopted him from the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society, the 2-year-old dog was a stray in New Orleans.
The name is hardly a coincidence.
“He is the mascot of good public policy, defender of hard-working taxpayers and protector of the Maine people from bad legislation,” LePage’s communications director Peter Steele told Boston.com.
The Republican governor recently vetoed 33 bills, including legislation to increase access to an overdose antidote drug, establish a state solar energy policy, and remove the age cap on school sexual assault victims.
However, 20 of the 33 vetoed bills, including the Naloxone and sexual assault bills, were ultimately overridden last week by a two-third vote in both the Maine House and Senate.
