Donald Trump shushes Jeb Bush, gets booed at GOP debate
Donald Trump took the rare step of criticizing the audience at hand at the Republican debate in New Hampshire on Saturday night.
The billionaire businessman had just said he approved of eminent domain, in which the government forcibly takes private property—with compensation—to complete projects for public use. As Trump noted, eminent domain is how governments are able to build roads, bridges, and other infrastructure.
But Jeb Bush hit at Trump, saying he had used eminent domain not for public interest but for taking an elderly woman’s home in Atlantic City to build a “limousine parking lot’’ for a casino.
“He wants to be a tough guy,’’ Trump said. “And it doesn’t work very well with him.’’
“How tough is it to take property from an elderly woman?,’’ Bush said.
“Let me talk. Let me talk,’’ Trump said
Trump then looked at Bush and put his finger to his lips: “Quiet.’’
The crowd loudly booed that dismissal, so Trump turned his ire on them.
“That’s all of his donors and special interests out there,’’ Trump said, as more boos cascaded toward him.
