Hillary Clinton’s odd and brief debate absence, explained

When the Democratic presidential debate returned from a short commercial break on Saturday night, viewers noticed something – err, someone – missing: Hillary Clinton.

The late arrival was caused by a wait to use the women’s bathroom, The Boston Globe reports, which was further away from the stage than the men’s room.

Lis Smith, the “caffeine-guzzling’’ deputy campaign manager for former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, was in the restroom at the time, the Globe reports. Yet there were other stalls avilable, and the Globe said it was not clear why Clinton chose not to use an available one.
