Donald Trump won’t go to Dunkin’ Donuts until their cups explicitly say ‘Merry Christmas’

Even though he says he doesn’t drink coffee, anyway.

There are people who apparently have strong feelings about the designs on their seasonal coffee cups.

Donald Trump is one of those people.

This week, the Republican presidential candidate suggested a boycott of Starbucks, because the company changed its holiday red cups to be more minimalist, angering people, as explained here by Vox.

Because it is November, Dunkin’ Donuts also unveiled their holiday-themed coffee cups, which include the word “Joy,’’ surrounded by evergreen branches.

Some people interpreted the Canton-based chain’s cup as a subtle jab to Starbucks and/or an embrace of Christmas (even though Dunkin’ Donuts’ cups also included no mention of Christmas and have used the word “joy’’ on the seasonal cups “for many years’’).

Trump was not fooled. Calling into Fox & Friends on Thursday morning, the presidential candidate said he wants the cups to explicitly state “Merry Christmas.’’

When host Steve Doocy asked the presidential candidate about his thoughts on the new Dunkin’ Donuts cup, Trump complained that he didn’t see those two festive words.

“I think it would be nice if somebody put ‘Merry Christmas’ on something, you know, like the old days, right?’’ Trump said. “But they don’t have ‘Merry Christmas,’ they have ‘Joy.’’’

He then repeated that he wished Dunkin’ Donuts would put “Merry Christmas’’ on the cups, and took a stance on his own patronage.

“I’ll start going there and buying coffee there, even though I don’t drink coffee,’’ he said.

At a campaign rally in October, Trump told a crowd of evangelical Christians in Iowa that, if elected, he would impose some form of Merry Christmas speech mandate.

“I guarantee if I become president we’re going to be saying ‘Merry Christmas’ at every store,’’ Trump said, per CNN. “The ‘happy holiday,’ you can leave that over in the corner.’’
