Literally zero people support Lincoln Chafee in new poll
Lincoln Chafee has no support, according to a recent poll.
That’s right, literally zero people said they support the former Rhode Island Republican senator and independent governor for the Democratic presidential nomination.
The Monmouth University poll released Wednesday had Chafee trailing Hillary Clinton at 51 percent, Bernie Sanders at 17 percent, Martin O’Malley and Jim Webb — both at 1 percent — with 15 percent still undecided.
“Chafee registers no support in the poll,’’ according to the poll, which was based off a 357 sample of registered Democrats of 1,001 individuals surveyed.
“Yes, literally zero,’’ Monmouth Polling Institute director Patrick Murray said, confirming Chafee’s results for Boston.com.
The poll did have a margin of error of 5.2 percent.
“It appears that Chafee, O’Malley and Webb have a bit of a hill to climb,’’ Chafee spokeswoman Debbie Rich told Boston.com.
Earlier this week, Chafee’scampaign report to the Federal Election Commission showed the campaign had raised a total of $29,048.03 since he announced his candidacy June 3.
To put that figure in context, Jeb Bush raised more than $11.4 million through the first 16 days of the Republican candidate’s campaign. That figure roughly breaks down to $712,500 per day, or $29,687.50 per hour.
So, yeah, Bush’s campaign raised more money per hour than Chafee’s campaign has raised altogether.
According to the FEC report, Chafee has mostly self-funded his campaign — as he has done it the past — by loaning himself more than $363,000. Chafee and his wife, Stephanie, are worth as much as $34.9 million, the Wall Street Journalreported.
In 2010, the Chafees self-funded more than $1.6 million out of $2.5 million raised for his gubernatorial campaign. The Associated Press reported he “does not like to fundraise.’’
A silver lining for the Chafee campaign: they fixed their Facebook account.
