Boston Mayor Marty Walsh will ‘absolutely not’ apologize to Donald Trump
Boston Mayor Marty Walsh will “absolutely not’’ apologize to Donald Trump for criticizing the presidential candidate’s controversial comments on immigration, a Walsh spokesperson told Boston.com.
The feud began when Walsh called Trump’s inflammatory comments on Mexican immigrants “inappropriate’’ in an interview with the Boston Herald.
“And if he wanted to build a hotel here, he’d have to make some apologies to people in this country,’’ said Walsh, who is the son of immigrants from Ireland.
Trump made headlines when he claimed in his presidential announcement speech that Mexican immigrants are “bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime. They’re rapists and some, I assume, are good people.’’
In true Trump fashion, the bombastic real estate scion declined to apologize “because everyone’s saying I’m right,’’ he told radio host Howie Carr. He then demanded an apology from Walsh while referring to himself in the third person.
“I think Walsh, whoever he may be, should absolutely apologize to Mr. Trump,’’ Trump said. “I expect him to apologize to me, and if he doesn’t, the voters should vote him the hell out of office.’’
Expect this to be the end of Walsh’s foray into Trumpian politics. Walsh’s spokesperson said he does not have plans to discuss Trump’s comments on immigration again.
