We’re Translating the Mass. Governor’s Debate Into Emoji

If you’re a Massachusetts political nerd, tonight must feel like Christmas. The state’s five gubernatorial candidates are set to square off in their first rip-roaring, sure-to-be-explosive debate.

Can you feel the excitement?

You can’t? What, you mean you’re not a Massachusetts political nerd?

That’s OK, it’s not just you. There just hasn’t been a lot of sizzle thus far in the campaign. So to spice things up a bit, we’re going to attempt to live-tweet the debate by translating the candidates’ statements into emoji. If you don’t know what emoji are, ask your kids. They’re the little smiley faces and pictures (e.g., hearts, piles of poop) you see in texts and tweets.

We’ll follow along tonight’s debate, rendering every slogan, cliche, and gaffe into 21st-century hieroglyphics. Clearly, we need help — your help, contribute your own translations, then check back here later tonight or tomorrow morning for a not-quite-full transcript of the night’s fiery banter-battle.
