Governor Patrick on Potential White House Run: ‘Maybe…’

Mass. Governor Deval Patrick didn’t rule out a White House run in comments on his future plans. AP

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick admitted he’s considered making a run for the White House in an interview with WCVB-TV.

“Maybe, but not right away,’’ Patrick said.

The two-term governor chose not to run for re-election this year, and his future plans are up in the air. Patrick has previously said he expected to serve out his term and join the private sector, although his comments today suggest that move may not be permanent.

Patrick also noted that the choice to run for president would be a “huge decision,’’ and one he’s considering.

“There are a lot of people who have asked me to think about it,’’ Patrick told WCVB-TV’s political show OTR.

One of those encouraging people is President Obama, who promoted Patrick back in March.

“Deval would make a great president or vice president,’’ Obama said then, fueling speculation at the time. “But, you know, I think, based on me talking to him, it sounds like he would like to take a little bit of a break. He’s still a relatively young man.’’
