Presidential inaugurations through the years

President Obama will be sworn in to his second term in office on Jan. 20, 2013 (with a second, public ceremony on Jan. 21). Take a look back at scenes from past presidential inaugurations, from William Howard Taft to President Obama.

On March 4, 1909, the inauguration of William Howard Taft took place in the Senate chamber because of a blizzard. This inauguration also marked the first time in the country’s history that a president’s wife accompanied her husband on the return ride in the procession from the Capitol to the White House following the inauguration.
