Celebrity Chef Punishes Children with Spicy Peppers
Since beating children “is not very popular’’ anymore, TV chef and healthy food evangelist Jamie Oliver said he punishes his naughty children by making them eat hot peppers.
Oliver revealed his parenting wisdom on the BBC’s Good Food Show in London. He said he once went so far as to employ the homicidally hot Scotch Bonnett pepper to teach his daughter Poppy, 12, a lesson.
“Poppy was quite disrespectful and rude to me and she pushed her luck. In my day I would have got a bit of a telling-off but you are not allowed to do that,’’ Oliver said. (We assume “telling off’’ is the UK equivalent of “opening up a can of whoop ass.’’)
Instead, Oliver gave her a whoop apple, if you will, when he served her a sliced apple onto which he had rubbed the spicy pepper.
“She ran up to Mum and said, ‘This is peppery!’ I was in the corner laughing.’’
As for why he doesn’t beat his kids, Oliver said, “It’s not very fashionable, and you are not allowed to do it, and if you are a celebrity chef like me it does not look very good in the paper.’’
