A Maine fire chief issued a mea culpa recently after sharing a profanity-laced music video on his department’s official Facebook page, evidently mistaking it for his personal feed.
Norway Fire Chief David Knox took the blame for the July 30 post featuring a music video for the anti-work anthem “F— This Job” by country music artist Wheeler Walker Jr., according to the Advertiser Democrat, which first reported the incident.
Tagged in the since-deleted post was Knox’s wife, Elizabeth, the longtime town clerk in nearby Paris, the local newspaper reported. Elizabeth Knox recently resigned from her post after Paris residents cut the municipal budget and prompted the town’s Select Board to dial back the clerk’s hours, per the Advertiser Democrat.
David Knox offered a public apology for the erroneous post in a July 31 statement.
“The Norway Fire Department deeply apologizes for the recent Facebook post that was shared in error,” he wrote on Facebook. “It was accidentally posted, and the Fire Chief takes all responsibility and apologizes for the post.”
Knox also vowed that “additional steps” were underway to “ensure the integrity of the fire department’s Facebook page,” though he did not elaborate.
Jeffrey Campbell, Norway’s police chief and interim town manager, told the Advertiser Democrat that Town Clerk Lisa Lombard will now be the administrator for the fire department’s Facebook page, and he and Lombard are working on a social media policy for the town’s departments. Campbell did not return a request for comment Thursday.
