A 10-year-old girl who died in Maine last month is being remembered by her extended family for her love of swimming, car shows, Legos, and her smile that would “light up a room.”

Funeral services for Marissa Kennedy will be held Saturday in Newburgh, New York. Her mother and stepfather, Sharon Carrillo, 33, and Julio Carrillo, 51, of Stockton Springs, Maine, have been charged with her murder.

Marissa A. Kennedy, age 10, entered into rest on February 25, 2018. She was born October 29, 2007 in Middletown. When she lived in New Windsor she attended Windsor Academy and New Windsor School.

Marissa’s life may have been short but she was truly loved by those who knew her. She enjoyed her time in New Windsor and loved the company of family and friends. She loved to swim, read, dance, build Legos, watch movies and attend car shows. Her smile would light up a room. She was the Love of our lives.

She is survived by: Her loving Grandmother and Grandfather Roseann and Joe Kennedy, Great Grandmother Lorraine Roy of Coppell, TX, Grandmother Donna Schwenk, Grandparents Carmen and Julio Carrillo, Uncle Robert and Dana Kennedy, Uncle Steve and Tasha Kennedy, Aunt Dee Kennedy, Uncle Mike and Fran Kennedy, late Uncle James and Aunt Kathy Kennedy, Aunt Deb and Uncle Joe Ferris, Uncle Jerry and Mary Roy, Aunt B. Hanley, siblings Luis and Emmy, Aunt Jessica and Aunt Tanya Carrillo, Aunt Allison and Uncle Jessie Schwenk and many loving cousins.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm on Friday, March 9 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Saturday, March 10 at St. Mary’s Church, 180 South St., Newburgh, NY, with Fr. Bill Scafidi officiating.
