Donald Trump on Deflategate: Tom Brady ‘threw better with the other ball’
The President-elect continues to defend his golf buddy.
President-elect Donald Trump continues to stand by Tom Brady, even if he no longer needs to win over New Hampshire voters.
In a Fox News interview taped last month that aired Friday night, Trump was asked about his opinion on the perhaps the only thing that lasted longer than the 2016 presidential campaign: Deflategate.
“Well, you know, he played better when he had the other ball,” Trump said of Brady, his longtime friend and New England Patriots quarterback.
“I think Tom is totally innocent,” he continued. “First of all, I know him; he’s an honorable guy, and I’m with him all the way.”
It’s hardly the first time the real estate developer-turned-reality TV star-turned-Republican presidential candidate-turned President-elect has weighed in on the ball-deflating controversy. In 2015, Trump said Brady would’ve won, even “if he was throwing a soccer ball.”
In turn, the brand-conscious quarterback has been reluctant to comment on his relationship with Trump.
Trump (somewhat dubiously) told a crowd in New Hampshire the day before the election that Brady voted for him, though the quarterback’s wife, Gisele Bundchen, has said they did not support the Republican candidate.
