No, not that Stanley Cup.
Popular cup brand Stanley announced a recall of its Switchback and Trigger Action travel mugs after it received multiple reports of burn injuries related to the products.
Stanley announced the recall of more than 2.6 million cups on Thursday. The lids of the Switchback and Trigger Action “can shrink when exposed to heat and torque, causing the lid to detach during use, posing a burn hazard,” the recall notice said.
Stanley received 91 reports around the world of Switchback and Trigger Action lids detaching while in use, according to the recall notice. Of those 91 reports, the company said, 38 resulted in burn injuries. Two of those burns were in the United States, according to the recall notice.
Customers should “immediately” stop using the mugs and contact Stanley to receive a free replacement lid, the recall notice said.
Stanley listed out several determining traits of the recalled mug lids. The mugs, sold between June 2016 and December 2024, came in white, black, and green, and in 12 oz., 16 oz., and 20 oz. sizes. The mugs were available for purchase at “Amazon.com, Walmart, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Target and other stores,” the company said.
The recalled mugs have the following identification numbers:
The Stanley brand was founded in 1913, according to their website. The company’s Quencher water bottle went viral on social media in recent years for its longevity and durability, prompting crazes over limited-edition colors and themes.
