“Meghan and Sidney were known to many on campus, and we are deeply saddened by this devastating news.”

Two young women killed over the weekend in what authorities are saying was a double murder-suicide in Florida were recent graduates of New England College in Henniker, N.H.

Meghan Moore, 25, and Sidney Capolino, 23, were identified Monday by the Miami-Dade Police Department as the victims of the Saturday shooting, The Boston Globe reports.

According to CBS News Miami, Miami-Dade police responded to reports of shots fired near the 7000 block of Southwest 40th Street around 8:53 p.m. on Saturday. At the scene, the officers found a woman outside an apartment suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, and while assisting her, officers heard another gunshot from inside the apartment, prompting an evacuation of the complex.

A special response team for the department arrived and entered the apartment, where they found another woman suffering from a gunshot wound and a man with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, CBS News reports. All three people died at the scene.

Police said Moore and Capolino were residents of the apartment, according to NECN. Moore was found outside the apartment, while Capolino was found inside with Luis Napoles, 40. Napoles and Moore had been dating, according to the station.

In a letter to the school community, New England College President Wayne F. Lesperance Jr. shared news of Capolino and Moore’s deaths.

“Meghan and Sidney were known to many on campus, and we are deeply saddened by this devastating news,” Lesperance wrote. “We are keeping Sidney and Meghan’s families and friends in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.”

It is currently spring break for the college, but Lesperance urged anyone in need of support or counseling services to reach out to the school’s wellness center.

According to the college’s athletics department, Moore was from Centerville, Mass. and Capolino was from Pawling, N.Y. Both were on the college’s women’s ice hockey team.
