Dunkin’ Donuts wins evangelical votes in the Christmas cup wars
A new round has begun in the Starbucks vs. Dunkin’ caffeinated brawl. After the recent kerfuffle over the red Starbucks holiday cups, an online consumer group is encouraging evangelical Christians to drink Dunks.
Raleigh, N.C. consumer group, Faith Driven Consumer, posted to its website calling for a “#ChristmasBuycott,’’ and encouraged its members to spend money at “faith compatible’’ companies this holiday season. According to its Faith Equality Index ranking, the Canton-based chain made the cut.
“By creating cups that specifically message the Joy of the Christmas Season — in sharp contrast to Starbucks’ ‘blank canvas’ — Dunkin’ Donuts has specifically welcomed Faith Driven Consumers, and all Americans who love Christmas,’’ said Chris Stone, founder of Faith Driven Consumer in a statement, Tuesday.

Some Christian groups viewed the unadorned Starbucks cups as the latest salvo in “The War on Christmas.’’ The company previously decorated their seasonal cups with images of snowmen and ornaments.
While Dunkin’ Donuts’ seasonal cups may say nothing about Christmas specifically, they do feature the word “joy’’ surrounded by a minimalist wreath.
Nevertheless, that hasn’t stopped the internet from picking sides.
