Fisher-Price’s new campaign is making a positive statement

Proud Parenting

The “nuclear family’’ is a concept that is so ingrained into American society, we may forget that there are any variants. But we need diversity in media for families to feel equal and accepted in society, and another American-family staple, Fisher-Price toys, is helping to expand the perception of who makes up a family.

Fisher-Price recently partnered with Proud Parenting, an LGBT parenting magazine, to launch a photo gallery to showcase some of America’s three million LGBT parents and their families.

Proud Parenting will be featuring new families throughout the summer on their website, Instagram, and Facebook.

“We are excited to partner with Fisher-Price on the Proud Parenting LGBT Family Photo Gallery,’’ said Jeff Bennett, Founder and Editor-in-Chief, Proud Parenting. “With a long-standing history of diversity and inclusiveness, they are now leading the way for a new generation of families.’’

This isn’t the first time Mattel, the Fortune 500 company that owns Fisher-Price, has shown their LGBT support. The company released an It Gets Better video in 2013 to combat LGBT bullying.

Proud Parenting Editor-in-Chief Jeff Bennett says he hopes the campaign will help “lead the way for a new generation of families.’’ But these kind of families aren’t that new—six million Americans have a parent who identifies as LGBT.
