As the death verdict for Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev reverberated through Boston, the nation, and the world, the judge in his trial took a moment to share some warm tidings with the condemned and his legal team.

Judge George O’Toole commended both the defendant and his attorneys for how they conducted themselves in court, according to two Boston Globe reporters in the room.

O’Toole said the attorneys handled themselves with “the highest level of professionalism,’’ according to Globe columnist Kevin Cullen. As for Tsarnaev, O’Toole said he showed “composure and propriety’’ in the courtroom, according to Globe reporter Patty Wen.

The jury returned a death sentence for Tsarnaev based on six of the 17 capital charges they weighed during at least 14 hours of deliberations. Tsarnaev, whose attorneys admitted took part in the 2013 bombings, will now get an immediate appeal in a higher federal court.

Should the appeals fail, Tsarnaev will most likely die in an Indiana facility, though the federal government has currently imposed a moratorium on executions.
