Live Blog: Police Use Tear Gas as They Try To Clear Ferguson of Protesters
Police and residents clashed for a fourth night in Ferguson, Missouri, as protesters and at least two reporters were arrested during a crackdown in a McDonald’s.
During a Wednesday afternoon press conference, police insisted that there was no curfew in Ferguson, but strongly urged protesters to limit their demonstrations to daylight hours. As the sun sets in Missouri, however, the streets remain lined with both protesters and police in military vehicles, sporting fatigues and “less-than-lethal’’ weaponry.
The four days of protests followed Saturday’s shooting of Michael Brown. Brown was unarmed when he was shot multiple times by police. Witnesses insist Brown had his hands up and was trying to surrender to police when he was shot. Police, meanwhile, claim they were assaulted while trying to arrest brown and an associate.
